VanVleet’s contract is not guaranteed past this season.

Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet is in the last guaranteed year of the three-year, $128 million contract he signed in 2023. The final year at $45 million is a team option for the Rockets.
VanVleet played well for Houston last season, averaging 17.4 points, 8.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game 41.6 percent shooting from the field and 38.7 percent from beyond the arc. He’ll be leading the charge as Houston’s point guard again this season.
The Rockets also drafted Amen Thompson last year, a natural point guard who spent a big chunk of 2023-2024 season as a wing instead.
Will Thompson be ready to take over? Can the Rockets use VanVleet’s salary to make a big move for a superstar? Or do they pick up his option for his last year?
You tell us.
Thanks for voting. We’ll be back soon with the results.
