Skills, Dunks And More
NBA All Star Friday has happened. The Rising Stars games saw Amen’s Team M win one game, and then lose to the GLeague because Ausar missing four free throws late. Or maybe Amen did? Who can tell?
Despite being eliminated by one point on Friday, Amen was called up to play for Candace’s Rising Stars. Alperen Sengun is playing for Chuck’s Global Stars, which is a pretty good looking team, especially with the global citizen that is Trae Young, playing for Giannis.
One thing to remember about not liking, or liking, the dunk contest is that you probably loved it when you about 12. That’s really who it is for, young people, kids. They like sick dunks. The whiny. tetchy, adultification of kids’ stuff has done a lot of harm. Wondering about the Ultimate Deeper Meaning of The NBA Dunk Contest is fool’s errand. It’s about sick dunks, and it would be better if some actual stars would get out and dunk, instead of being jerks about it. Do it for the kids, kids.
I’ll be streaming the games tomorrow, since there are Rockets involved. It’s a round robin tournament, to a fixed score, so it should move fast, and be fun. It’s basically pick up basketball to 15 by ones, so we’ll see if the stars can get into or not. Hopefully they will. The NBA really should fill the arena for this stuff with kids who have free tickets, instead of corporate bigwigs, jaded players, etc. Stop worrying, again, about the Deeper Level of it all, and let kids enjoy something that’s mostly for kids.
It’s a great way to bring young fans to the NBA, if everyone would stop whining about it for a bit.
Here’s tonight’s schedule, couldn’t find it on BSky.
