The Houston Rockets have been one of the best teams in the league this season. They are currently 27-12 and second in the Western Conference standings. The Rockets roster has gelled into a young and feisty defensive juggernaut. They are in the top three in defensive rating and top ten in offensive rating. The Rockets’ core is young, and it looks like they are well-positioned to contend in the future.
The Rockets, however, may be more interested in making a big trade soon rather than slowly developing their squad. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon recently revealed that the Rockets are very interested in Devin Booker if he becomes available in a trade. Although the Suns are not looking to trade Booker at the moment, the Rockets’ trade interest shows that they could be big game hunting on the NBA trade market in the near future.
Rockets Want Suns Guard Devin Booker, Are They Hunting A Star Trade?
The Houston Rockets Roster is Young and Deep
The Houston Rockets roster has a little bit of everything. On one hand, they have tough veterans like Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks. On the other, they have young budding stars like Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green. They have loads of other talented players on the roster as well, and it isn’t too surprising that they’ve taken the league by storm this season. If anything the Rockets have too many solid young players. High-potential players like Cam Whitmore and Reed Sheppard can barely get consistent playing time.
Along with loads of intriguing young players, the Rockets also have a ton of future picks including three of the Suns’ first-round picks. This means they could be in on some big trades for a star if one comes available. Specifically having three of the Suns’ picks would allow their package to stand out in a possible Booker trade and Phoenix could enter a true rebuild. Their recent reported interest in Booker shows that they could be willing to take a big swing rather than wait for their young core to develop.
Rockets Trade Interest
The Rockets trade interest in Booker may just be the start. Every year some NBA star becomes available and it looks like the Rockets will likely be in contention to trade for them when they do. They didn’t budge at trading for Jimmy Butler when he became available. They may be looking at younger stars to grow with their core.
It seems like the Rockets like their young core enough to not make any rash decisions, but not enough to hold back assets if they can trade for a bonafide superstar who is young and healthy.
De’Aaron Fox trade is another name that has to be considered now that the Rockets have shown their cards. If Fox decides that he wants out of Sacramento, the Rockets could be an ideal trade candidate, his age more lines up with that of the Rockets core. Without a go-to scorer that they can rely on every night, the Fox could fit onto the Rockets perfectly.
Will the Rockets Trade for a Star?
With who is available at the moment, it seems like the Rockets are going to hold onto their assets. Players like Booker and Fox aren’t available at the moment, and they don’t seem interested in Butler. Keep an eye on the Rockets in the trade market when big names become available though, they may be big game hunting.
