Houston Rockets rookie Amen Thompson will sit out the remainder of the NBA Summer League with an ankle injury.
According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, the No. 4 overall pick is out for three-to-four weeks with a Grade 2 ankle sprain. Thompson landed awkwardly while fighting for a rebound at the end of Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The injury spoiled a promising debut for Thompson, who filled the box score with 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.
While it’s always exciting to get an early glimpse at the game’s top prospects, Thompson is too important to Houston’s future to risk in summer exhibition games. The 20-year-old should have plenty of time to recover before the regular season starts in October.
However, the injury wipes out an intriguing family matchup. Thompson was slated to face his twin brother, No. 5 pick Ausar Thompson, when the Rockets play the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.
