The Rockets have some new digs.
NBA Training Camp is less than a month away for the Houston Rockets. October 1 kicks of the NBA season proper when the team returns to the practice court, only this time, the Rockets will be using their new courts.
Houston has a brand-new, $70 million practice facility which lies just north of the Post Oak Hotel on the I-610 loop just about 10 minutes away from the Toyota Center. It has 75,000 square feet of practice space in addition to offices for basketball operations executives and staff. There are two full courts, locker rooms, weight training facilites, meeting rooms and more.
Previously, the Rockets trained either in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Galverston Texas, and inside the Toyota Center on a single practice court, but all of the old space is being redesigned to hold the Rockets’ business operations.
In addition, the Toyota Center is getting an $8 million new roof along with various other upgrades as well. Say what you want about Tilman Fertitta as an owner, but he’s at least investing money into improvements for the team, particularly as the squad is on it’s way to improving their on-court performance as well.
You can find some clips of the new facility here.
With camp fast approaching, we’ll be picking up our coverage here at TDS. As usual, we’ll kick off the year with our player preview series and continue with Media Day coverage, game coverage, Xiane’s Five Out and as much analysis as we can cram in.
