The Houston Rockets are finally healthy and are now the winners of nine straight games heading down the home stretch after coming from behind to defeat the Miami Heat 102-98 behind 37 points from Fred VanVleet.
The Rockets were down 11 at one point in the third quarter, but rallied behind VanVleet, who went on a 9-2 run all by himself, inlcuding two three-point shots, to give Houston the lead for good and their first win in Miami since 2018. VanVleet finished 13-for-17 from the field and 9-for-11 from three-point range and also had 3 assists and 3 steals.
Amen Thompson returned from injury and picked up right where he left off, finishing with 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting, along with filling up the box score with 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 7 steals and a block.
Houston also got 11 from Dillon Brooks and 11 from Jabari Smith Jr. , and the Rockets shot 50 percent from three-point land as a team. They won the rebound battle 46-34 and forced 20 Heat turnovers to spearhead the victory.
Miam was led by Andrew Wiggins, who finished with 30 points, while Kel’el Ware had 16 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks.
The Rockets are now 46-25 and hold a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Lakers for the second seed in the Western Conference with 11 games left to play in the season. They will return to action on Sunday night versus thr Denver Nuggets in a good measuring stick.
