Bad weather has pushed the game to another day.
It’s 41 degrees and sunny in Houston this morning as I am writing this. I woke up excited for a day with two Houston sports games as the Texans take on the Chargers at 3:00 CST, and the Rockets were schedule to tip off versus Atlanta at 2:00 CST. Well, it looks like mother nature had other plans. While parts of California are on fire, it appears on the other side of the country, a massive winter storm has impacted much of the south, including cites in Northern Texas, Southern Oaklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, and the Carolinas, amongst others.
Antlanta, Georgia, a city that rarely sees snow, reported snowfall of one to three inches of snow, and sleet was widespread in the Atlanta metro by mid-morning Friday. The city will deal with mixed precipitation much of the day. Icy buildup could lead to power outages in addition to treacherous travel. As temperatures drop below freezing after sunset, slush and standing water on North Georgia roads will quickly freeze again, leading to dangerous travel conditions into Saturday, the National Weather Service in Atlanta warned.
All of this lead to the cancelliaton of today’s matchup between the Houston Rockets and the Atlanta Hawks.
NBA has postponed Rockets-Hawks in Atlanta today due to severe weather and hazardous icy conditions.

While I am sad about today’s posteponment, it will likely allow both teams to be healthier. Houston is missing Tari Eason with his leg injury managment and Jabari Smith Jr. due to his broken hand. Additionally, Jalen Green has been dealing with a nagging knee injury, and while he has not missed any games it was clear he was less aggressive in the game versus the Wizards. A similar situation can be said for Sengun who looked gassed versus the Grizzlies Thursday night.
The Hawks will also benefit from the rescheduling, as Jalen Johnson and Cody Zeller are game time decisions, and Larry Nance Jr. is out.
It is currently TBD when the game will be rescheduled. Updates forthcoming.
