Some accolades for Houston’s top pick.
I’m a little slow on this news, as I’ve been on the road, but Reed Sheppard has certainly made an impression already, as it was announced Monday that he was named to the NBA 2K25 All-Summer League first team.
Sheppard averaged 20 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per game and looked as good as anyone could have hoped, showing off his smooth jumper, fast defensive hands and paymaking ability.
Here’s your first team:
GG Jackson II – Forward, Memphis Grizzlies
Jordan Miller – Forward, Los Angeles Clippers
Scotty Pippen Jr. – Guard, Memphis Grizzlies
Reed Sheppard – Guard, Houston Rockets
Kel’el Ware – Center, Miami Heat
Sheppard has been getting noticed across the league, with him earning an A+ grade over here at CBS Sports to also being named one of ESPN’s top five Summer League standouts.
That’s a lot of early praise for Houston’s rookie, but there’s also likely to be an adjustment period when Sheppard hits the floor for the varsity. That being said, should Sheppard carry over his summer performance to the fall, it could bring up all types of questions about how the Rockets shape their future (Jalen Green, Fred VanVleet, etc…), but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
For now, the Rockets have a good problem, as it looks like Sheppard is ready to step in and contribute right away to what’s fast looking like one of the most intriguing young teams in the NBA heading into the upcoming season.
