The Rockets head to San Antonio for their first road trip of the season
A few years ago, the NBA started doing this “play the same team in their building two games in a row” thing. In November, the Houston Rockets will play back-to-back games against the same team in Toyota Center. Tonight and Monday, they will play an away-and-away series against the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs probably would like to remain under the radar like they usually do. In a perfect world (for them), Pop would coach this plucky young team into a play-in spot a year earlier than their timeline would justify. And we’d all remark about how Gregg Popovich has done it yet again and that the Spurs are in line to trade for all the stars that Houston hopes to acquire. Like the good old days!
Unfortunately for San Antonio, they feature an incredible athlete the likes of which we haven’t seen before. Victor Wembanyama keeps them above the radar, so the Spurs won’t be able to sneak up on anyone. Soon, if not already, opposing arenas will always sell out for the chance to see Wemby.
Houston has the talent to win both of these games, but usually these away-and-away games benefit the home team a lot. These teams played in the preseason, but Popovich didn’t play many of his regulars.
I believe Xiane will be in the Playback room tonight, so you should be in good hands.
