Houston tries to sweep a back-to-back against the struggling Milwaukee Bucks
The Houston Rockets are suddenly moving up the rankings and establishing themselves as not just an upstart team, but a good one. At 10-4, the Rockets have a better record than any but the most homer of fans would have expected. Houston not only has the fifth-best record as I type this, and they have the fifth-best point-differential, though recent wins against the Clippers and Bulls are carrying a lot of the water there.
We started getting excited for the Rockets last season when Houston was a .500 team and showed that most nights. After three years of Stephen Silas teams that weren’t fun to watch and didn’t develop at all, last season was a breath of fresh air. This season is yet another, as Houston has clearly made another leap.
Tonight, the Rockets get the Milwaukee Bucks, who have gotten off to a slow start. Milwaukee is 21st in adjusted offensive efficiency and 13th on defense. Milwaukee is 4-9 and on yet another head coach. There are trade rumors involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, which would firmly shut a championship window that was already closing when they traded Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard to appease Giannis. They also hired Adrian Griffin. Then they fired Adrian Griffin. And as Rockets fans saw with James Harden, letting your superstar dictate personnel moves is always a bad idea.
Anyway, tonight is a back-to-back for the Rockets, who are 1-1 on second nights of back-to-backs early in the season. Houston will have two more back-to-backs in the next week-and-a-half. The Rockets were able to rest their starters last night in Chicago due to the blowout, but these are still difficult for young players. So tonight is another test.
We’ll be in the Playback room tonight, so you should come join to watch the Rockets and talk about the game. Remember, we get a handful of VIP passes that we give out to anyone who wants to watch the game. No League Pass necessary!
