Two things can be true:
De’Aaron Fox & Mike Brown didn’t do themselves many favors the past week.
Both also have clear reasons to be unhappy with the direction/decisions of the organization, from the Rich Paul meeting to roster construction.
Mike is gone. Feels like Fox is on – 1:06 PM

Last one from me tonight on Kings
Asked De’Aaron Fox on keeping his joy, in general
Fox: “Things outside of basketball. And I love to play the game… Obviously we spend so much time in here. But when I go home, my kids don’t care what happened when I came here…” pic.x.com/NZjWQldx3t – 2:45 AM

This game ended up as a standard-paced game overall in Los Angeles (98.5 possessions)
But it was the worst defensive performance of the season for Kings (133.3 points per 100 poss. allowed)
Asked De’Aaron Fox how he can balance increased pace with a semblance of defense pic.x.com/t9D6u1fFVF – 2:41 AM

I thought it notable that De’Aaron Fox didn’t seem to take any responsibility when he was asked about what happened on the Jaden Ivey four-point play. But it was also notable how hard Mike Brown laid into everyone. Quite a disconnect. youtu.be/XdGHyxz2AVU?si… – 3:42 AM

More on this storyline
Fox will be extension-eligible this offseason with hopes of earning All-NBA honors and a supermax contract starting at approximately $59.5 million in 2026-27. That seems out of reach, and his max extension would start at $51 million (which is still a massive payday)—a number he can get from any team (unlike the supermax, which could only be from Sacramento). Grumblings in NBA circles suggest Fox will push for a trade before the February 6 deadline and that the Kings will likely entertain all options. -via Bleacher Report / December 30, 2024
After informing Brown, Wilcox and McNair called Fox, DeRozan and All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis. Fox and DeRozan were getting ready to head to the airport. Sabonis was home sick and missed the call. None of them were consulted on the decision. -via ESPN / December 30, 2024
Three weeks ago, after a practice, Fox said he and Brown had a heart-to-heart about where the team was and what they could both do to help the Kings out of what has now grown into a 5-13 slide. Brown told Fox that he believed Fox could become one of the best two-way players ever at his position, but he had to keep pushing himself. “I was fine with that,” Fox said. “He told me things, then he said it to the media. And obviously he still played me 40 minutes because he wanted me to do those things. He was being tough on that.” -via ESPN / December 30, 2024
