Buckle up Buttercup, the show’s about to start
That’s right! Today is NFL Draft Monday. Not a holiday – yet – but might as well be. In fact, the great state of Texas should proclaim this entire week a holiday. After all the excitement of last year’s draft, Nick Caserio and Demeco Ryans have set the bar pretty high.
What will happen this week? Major trades? Unexpected rookie slides? Future Hall of Fame players hearing their name called?
All that is likely to occur.

Nick Caserio said he feels like this draft class has some lag physically and some players might not be ready to help right away.
Said he has to weigh that in the process when maybe you pick a player this year knowing they’re more ready and effective next year. #Texans

2024 Houston Texans Draft Picks:
Texans’ 2024 draft picks
Round 2: No. 42 overall (from Minnesota)
Round 2: No. 59
Round 3: No. 86 (from Philadelphia)
Round 4: No. 123 (from Cleveland)
Round 4: No. 127
Round 6: No. 188 (from Las Vegas through New England and Minnesota)
Round 6: No. 189 (from Buffalo through Denver and Los Angeles Rams)
Round 7: No. 238 (from New Orleans)
Round 7: No. 247
Top three needs: CB, DT, WR. The Texans signed two former top-10 picks from the 2020 draft, Jeff Okudah and CJ Henderson, at cornerback. Both are talented, but neither developed into what their draft billing suggested, so the Texans could use more corner help.
.@SethCPayne & @SeanTPendergast are excited, but calm about the #Texans‘ draft this year.

That’s 9 total picks. Expect Caserio to put his gamblers hat on and look to wheel and deal some, if not all, of those picks.
With the cards Houston currently holds, it’s very likely the phone starts ringing if and when another team decides they want to trade out of the first round.
Based on the NFL Draft Pick Trade Value Chart, here’s what Caserio has in his hand right now:
Pick 42 – 480 points
Pick 59 – 310 points
Pick 86 – 160 points
Pick 123 – 49 points
Pick 127 – 45 points
Pick 188 – 16 points
Pick 189 – 16 points
Pick 238 – 2 points
Pick 247 – 2 points
By packaging both 2nd round picks and one of the others, Caserio could easily trade back into the top 20 selections, putting the Texans back into the 1st round.
If a player catches his eye that’s expected to go higher, he could barter with 1 or more of next year’s picks to bring more talent to H-Town.
The least likely thing to happen this week: Houston standing pat with the picks they have and letting the draft come to them.
Caserio and Ryans have proven they’re proactive, not reactive. Expect them to continue this trend between now and Saturday evening.
