No one benefitted more from exceptional quarterback play in Houston last season than third-year receiver Nico Collins.
After hauling in passes from Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills, Kyle Allen and several others, Collins broke out in 2023 as C.J. Stroud’s No. 1 target. Houston’s seventh-ranked passing attack was headlined by the former Michigan product, who caught 80 passes for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Texans expect more for Collins moving forward and trust he’ll live up to his new three-year extension. During Wednesday’s practice, Collins gave fans a look at how he’s only getting started heading into Year 4.
During 11-on-11 drills, Collins took the inside advantage on rookie Kamari Lassiter for the easy reception. He wasn’t done as he managed to get the second-round pick to bite coming downhill to retake the inside lead.
Collins, who joined Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins as the only receiver to total more than 1,200 yards in a single season, isn’t known for his speed and agility.
One could argue that’s been his most significant attribute in training camp heading into Thursday’s off-period.

These types of reps have been consistent for Collins in the early stages of training camp. Hopefully the 2021 third-rounder can keep producing impact plays like this one while helping Houston secure another division title.
