Despite five takeaways and a double-digit second-half lead, the Houston Texans found themselves on the losing end of Sunday night’s contest with the Detroit Lions.
Kicker Jake Bates’ walk-off field goal narrowly avoided the left upright, providing the 26-23 win for the Lions.

Houston dropped to 6-4 yet maintained its two-game lead in the division as the entire AFC South lost on Sunday. The Texans have lost three of their last four, all three by one score. Houston’s 5-1 start included four one-score victories.
DeMeco Ryans and the defense gave Houston a shot by quieting the league’s best offense for the first half, but its own unit sputtered in the second half. The Texans will have an extra day to prepare for an all-Texas meeting with the Dallas Cowboys at Jerry’s World on Monday.
Below are five takeaways from the loss to the Lions.
