The Texans aren’t expected to have rookie phenom C.J. Stroud under center this Sunday against the Titans due to a concussion. He suffered the injury last weekend against the Jets.
Davis Mills replaced Stroud in Week 14, completing just one of his five pass attempts.
Even though Mills stepped in when Stroud went down, he’s not expected to start this Sunday.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, the Texans want to start Case Keenum at quarterback. The coaching staff apparently values his “big-game experience.”
Keenum received the majority of reps with the first-team offense this week, a clear sign that he’ll replace Stroud this Sunday.
It’s been well over a year since Keenum has started in an NFL game. That being said, his résumé is impressive for a backup.
Since entering the league in 2012, Keenum has completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 14,884 yards with 78 touchdowns and 48 interceptions. He led the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game during the 2017 season.
Maybe, just maybe, Keenum can recapture the magic from the “Minnesota Miracle” and lead the Texans to a win over the Titans.
