The Texans will be without one of their veteran linebackers for the next few weeks.
On Tuesday, linebacker Denzel Perryman received a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s playing rules intended to “protect the health and safety of players.”
Perryman was flagged for making forcible contact with his helmet on Sunday against the Bengals. It was the seventh time it has happened this season.
Jon Runyan, the NFL vice president of football operations, issued a statement on Perryman’s suspension.
“When players violate the rules intended to protect player safety on a repeated basis, and particularly when the violations carry with them a significant risk of injury to an opposing player, it is appropriate to impose substantially greater penalties,” Runyan said.

Perryman has 41 tackles in six games this season. Now that he’s out for three weeks, Neville Hewitt will be asked to step up at linebacker.
The red-hot Texans will face the Cardinals this Sunday at home.
