It looks like we catch scratch another young offensive coordinator who helped lead his team to an unprecedented playoff run off the list of head coaches for 2024.
According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik has agreed to a new deal with the team that will keep him in Houston for at least another year. As a result, he will not be pursuing either of the remaining head coaching opportunities.
“Texans OC Bobby Slowik has agreed to a new deal in Houston within the past few days, one that includes a significant raise, per sources. Slowik impressed multiple NFL clubs thru the interview process. But he’s sticking in Houston. He’ll be a hot name in 2025,” Breer wrote.
Slowik became offensive coordinator of the Texans under DeMeco Ryans after spending the previous four years with the San Francisco 49ers. Yet in his first year he helped turn the offense from one of the worst into one of the NFL’s best and helped develop C.J. Stroud into a Pro Bowler.
However, the team struggled in their season-ending playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens, leading some to believe that Slowik didn’t deserve a head coaching job to begin with.

As Breer alluded to, Bobby Slowik will be a key name to keep an eye on in 2025.
There has never been a year without a head coaching opening in the NFL and he seems like a prime candidate to fill one of those next season.
