DeMeco Ryans has an embarrassment of riches on his Houston Texans offense.
After winning the AFC South in his first season, the head coach welcomes Stefon Diggs to the mix in 2024. The star wide receiver will form an explosive trio alongside Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
Per ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, Ryans told reporters that those wideouts will place “a lot of stress on the defense.”
“We want to put defenses in binds, and I think with those three guys it allows us to do that because they are so different, and they can all do different things,” Ryans said. “But at the end of the day, they are all explosive finishers with the football, and that is what makes those guys great players. They can win on third down, and they can finish and get in the end zone, and that’s what we look for at all skill positions on offense.”
Collins caught 80 of 109 targets for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Meanwhile, Dell averaged 15.1 yards per catch and scored seven touchdowns in 11 games.
The 6-foot-4 Collins and 5-foot-10 Dell already gave C.J. Stroud a dynamic and complementary duo before the Texans acquired Diggs from the Buffalo Bills. They’ll now add an All-Pro who’s exceeded 1,000 receiving yards in six straight seasons and led the NFL with 445 catches during his four years at Buffalo.
Ryans has enjoyed coaching Diggs during offseason workouts and expects big things from the 30-year-old.
“You talk about a guy who’s dialed in, a guy who loves football. It’s been fun to work with him,” Ryans said of Diggs. “It’s been fun just to see the chemistry that starts to build in our locker room with him, our quarterback, the other receivers, offensive players, defensive players. He’s going to be a really great fit with what we do here.”
