We’ve seen a couple of trades across the NFL on Wednesday, including one involving the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Texans are trading veteran defensive tackle Maliek Collins to the 49ers.
Dianna Russini at The Athletic says the compensation coming back to Houston is a seventh-round pick. Collins is now the fifth defensive player the 49ers have acquired this week, and the second defensive tackle.
San Francisco previously signed defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, last of the Cleveland Browns, to a two-year deal worth up to $10 million and added pass rushers Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, along with veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks.
The 49ers needed reinforcements on the defensive line after losing defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (Jets) and defensive end Clelin Ferrell (Commanders) in free agency. The team is also expected to release defensive tackle Arik Armstead.
Collins, 28, spent the last three seasons with the Texans. He has also played for the Las Vegas Raiders (2020) and Dallas Cowboys (2016-19). In 2023, Collins started 16 games, matching his career-high in sacks with five and setting a new personal-best for tackles with 41.
The former Nebraska star has appeared in 119 regular season games with 112 starts in his career, logging 206 total tackles, 25.5 sacks and six fumble recoveries.
