Tavierre Thomas, Houston Texans, Agree to Contract
Throughout the 2022 season, Tavierre Thomas played a meaningful role as one of the top cornerbacks on the Houston Texans roster. While injuries limited him to just 10 games and six starts, the former undrafted free agent finished the season with one pass defended, two forced fumbles, 41 tackles, and one tackle-for-loss. The Texans did not have a good year in 2022, going 3-14 and landing the second-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Tavierre Thomas originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. Signing with the Arizona Cardinals, the Ferris State product spent the offseason battling for one of the final spots on the roster. While he didn’t make the Week 1 cut with Arizona, he landed on his feet with the Cleveland Browns. Appearing in 13 games, Thomas finished the season with eight tackles while spending most of the season on special teams.
Thomas remained with the Browns in 2019 and stayed in the same role as a special teams ace. Appearing in 16 games without making a start, he finished his second season with nine tackles and a fumble recovery. In 2020, however, Thomas finally saw some time on defense. Appearing in all 16 games while making three starts, the Ferris State product ended the year with one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one sack, 30 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and one quarterback hit.
Tavierre Thomas signed a contract with the Houston Texans the following offseason and had the best season of his career. Given a larger role, the cornerback ended the 2021 campaign with two interceptions, four passes defended, one forced fumble, 86 tackles, and one tackle-for-loss.
