We’re at that part of the year where we’re micro-analyzing every action that potential free agents are taking ahead of the start of the new league year. Today, we’re taking a look at Saquon Barkley’s social media activity and what it could mean for his 2024 plans.
With the New York Giants running back unlikely to receive a franchise tag for a second year in a row, he seems destined to test the free agency waters in the weeks to come. Recently, he started following a few players on Instagram from one team that many believe is an ideal fit for him.
According to CBS Sports, Barkley has started following Houston Texans players Brevin Jordan, Tank Dell, Nico Collins and newly-minted Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.
The Texans are believed to be in the market for a running back next month with last year’s leading rusher, Devin Singletary, likely to hit free agency. While the reigning AFC South champions could just name Dameon Pierce their starting running back, their $67 million in cap space (per Over The Cap) gives them wiggle room to add some bonafide stars to the backfield.
2023 was a bit of a down year for Barkley, who missed three games but still finished the season with over 1,200 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns. Nevertheless, it still wasn’t as good as his sensational 2018 or 2022 seasons, and the Giants might be ready to let him walk if they feel he’s reached his ceiling already.
Where will Saquon Barkley play next season?
