Texans add a 2026 7th rounder in a sell low move
The trade deadline passed a 4 PM eastern standard time on Tuesday and your Houston Texans did make a move. They traded backup defensive tackle Khalil Davis to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 seventh round. It could be a banner draft in 2026 as the club also did a pick swap with the Minnesota Vikings when they traded Cam Akers there earlier this year.

It was a disappointing end to a disappointing day. The club full well knows they need left guard help. However you feel about Kenyon Green, he is expected to miss the rest of the season with an injured. That leaves just Kendrick Green and Jarrett Patterson. Patterson is still in the concussion protocol and may not be available for next Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Nico Collins is eligible to come off of injured reserve, but it is unknown as of this writing as to whether he will be back on Sunday. John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson showed that they were unable to get open for much of the game on Thursday night. Interestingly enough, they showed the exact same thing last year against that Jets team.
To give everyone a little advance on my podcast “Born on the Bayou Sports”, my partner and I pick a horse’s ass every week. Essentially, it is someone in the sports world that disappointed us the most that week. Caserio will be my pick two weeks in a row. There were some that were trumpeting him as a possible executive of the year candidate. I think that horse has left the barn.
While it is true that it takes two to tango and we have no idea what the asking price was for potential guards and receivers, we noticed other teams seemed to be able to add players to their roster. Caserio seemingly didn’t want to pull the trigger. Supposedly, players like Christian Kirk were available and Houston was supposedly involved. His 27 catches and 379 yards wasn’t going to make anyone forget Stefon Diggs, but it would have been better than what Robert Woods, Metchie, and Hutchinson could provide.
The Giants were supposedly shopping Darius Slayton and his 32 catches and 469 yards. The Ravens added Diontae Johnson and also got a fifth round pick somehow. They sent a 6th round pick with him. He had 30 catches and 357 yards. Let’s keep in mind that these three receivers put these numbers up in offenses performing worse than the Texans. They each would have had an upgrade at quarterback. So, it is likely they finish the last eight games better here than they did for their other team.
The most valuable thing any coach or general manager can do is evaluate their own talent. I suppose that DeMeco Ryans and Caserio believe that the Texans’ young wide receivers can produce. That is why Noah Brown is catching hail mary passes in Washington instead of serving as quality depth here. He has 22 catches and 318 yards which is also better than what those trio of wide receivers has done combined.
Obviously, that was a whiff and many of us here had raised eyebrows when the team decided to move on from Brown instead of Metchie, Woods, or Hutchinson. We had more than raised eyebrows when we decided to not add a veteran guard in the offseason and simply assume that Kenyon Green could do the job. It looks like those decisions are finally coming back to bite them in the backside.
At the very least, this mini-bye week hopefully affords them the opportunity to sign someone off the street and look at what they are doing as an offense. What we saw on Thursday night and for all of the past three weeks isn’t going to cut it. It’s time to start looking more critically at some of the guys in the building.
