The Houston Texans must hire a new offensive coordinator following the firing of Bobby Slowik.
One candidate, however, can cross his name off the list for an interview.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the. Seattle Seahawks are hiring New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their next OC.
Kubiak, the son of former Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, was rumored to be in the mix for the Texans’ opening, especially given his familiarity with the organization.
Nothing, however, developed between the two sides following Slowik’s departure on Friday. Kubiak had already been deep in discussions with Seattle leading into the weekend.
Initially in the running for a position on DeMeco Ryans’ staff in 2023, Kubuiak spent one season as the San Francisco 49ers’ passing game coordinator under Kyle Shanahan.

Kubiak also previously served as offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. As the replacement for Pete Carmichael in New Orleans this offseason, the Saints finished 21st in total yards (320.1) and 24th in points per game (19.9).
Kubiak, 37, was the first offensive coordinator candidate the Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald interviewed in person following Seattle’s firing of Ryan Grubb. Despite finishing 10-7 and barely missing the playoffs, Seattle’s offense took a step back in 2024, finishing 28th in rushing (95.7 yards per game) and 18th in scoring (22.1 points per game).

Injuries derailed the Saints’ hot start, resulting in 91 points being scored in the first two games. Several key players, including quarterback Derek Carr (seven games), wide receivers Chris Olave (nine) and Rashid Shaheed (11), center Erik McCoy (10), and tight end Taysom Hill (nine) all missed multiple games and lost seven straight games after starting 2-0.
One of the lone bright spots, the Saints still finished the season in the top half of the league in rushing yards, touchdowns and yards per attempt. The Saints’ 37 sacks allowed were 14th-fewest among 32 teams.

Despite the on-field results, Kubiak was a sought-after candidate for another option on the market. While New Orleans began starting interviews for its head coaching opening, Kubiak was linked to both the Cleveland Browns and Texans’ coordinator openings.
The Texans, who finished 22nd in total offense and 19th in scoring, are expected to conduct interviews this week. Quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson is expected to be an option.
Outside candidates rumored for the position include Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nick Caley and Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.
