The Houston Texans could reportedly undergo some front-office overhaul this spring.
Although he called the rumor he heard “preposterous,” Audacy’s John McClain relayed chatter from the annual meetings that general manager Nick Caserio could leave and rejoin the New England Patriots after the NFL Draft. Whether or not the idea has any legs, the Texans may have a fallback plan in place.
The San Francisco Chronicle’s Michael Silver added Thursday that Houston could target San Francisco 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters to replace Caserio if he exited.

Peters worked in New England’s scouting department during Caserio’s long tenure with the team as a personnel assistant and director. He spent the last two years in San Francisco, coinciding with new Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans’ stint as defensive coordinator.
However, McClain doesn’t think there’s any merit to the rumblings of Caserio returning to New England. He noted there’s no opening, as Bill Belichick is the “czar” who twice blocked Caserio from going to Houston.
“There are a lot of reasons I don’t believe it, starting with there are no GM jobs open,” McClain wrote. “Caserio has three years left on his contract that pays him $5 million a year, he has 12 draft choices and two first-round picks, he loves working with Ryans and — last but not least – any team trying to sign Caserio would have to cough up substantial compensation.”
