The Houston Texans drafted C.J. Stroud No. 2 overall to be the franchise’s quarterback of the future.
It’s worth assuming Stroud is the Texans’ QB of the present as well, considering teams don’t draft quarterbacks that high to have them sit.
Just don’t tell Davis Mills that. Mills, who has been Houston’s starter the last two seasons, firmly stated on Tuesday that he is trying to compete for the starting job this fall.

A third round pick out of Stanford in 2021, Mills has played in 28 games with 26 starts through his first two pro seasons.
He has completed 63.6% of his throws for 5,782 yards, 33 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
