Strong and sturdy wins football games in the trenches. The Houston Texans are following that method on the offensive side of the ball.
The Texans secured another offensive tackle with the addition of Notre Dame’s Blake Fisher at pick No. 59 overall Friday night in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft.
During his time with the Irish, Fisher, 21 started 27 games, 26 of which came on the right side of the offensive line. The 6-foot-6 tackle was a standout during his junior season, allowing three sacks and two pressures.
Fisher made Notre Dame history when he became the first true freshman to start at left tackle in a season-opener. While still a work in progress when it comes to his pass protection, Fisher excels as a run blocker, helping the Irish bolster one of the better ground-and-pound games throughout his tenure in South Bend.
The Texans don’t need Fisher to start right away, but having a succession plan in case of injury isn’t the worst plan. Tytus Howard has missed time over the past two seasons, including suffering a season-ending knee injury against Jacksonville in mid-November.
Here’s a collection of all of the grades for Lassiter from various media outlets, where experts believe Houston added a solid depth piece to the offensive line as it looks to remain at the top roster in the AFC South.
