Opening odds and predictions for Texans vs. Patriots
The 4-1 Houston Texans are set to take on the 1-4 New England Patriots on the road this weekend.
Patriots have announced that rookie quarterback Drake Maye, their third-overall pick, is set to start for the first time against Houston.
The Texans went up against rookie quarterback Caleb Williams in week two, and things did not go well for the first-overall pick, throwing for only 174 yards with two interceptions.
New England lacks talent everywhere, but one of their main problems is on their offensive line, which is not an ideal situation for a rookie quarterback making his first start in the league.
FANDUEL SPORTSBOOK OPENING ODDS:
- Spread: Texans -7
- Moneyline: Texans -320
- Over/Under: 38.5
As a surprise to no one, Houston will be extreme favorites entering this matchup, for good reason. They are by far the better team, meaning this will likely be a pretty safe bet.
Something to keep your eye on as the week progresses, is the injury status of wide receiver Nico Collins and running back Joe Mixon. Collins injured his hamstring in the first quarter against the Bills, and his labeled as “week to week”, according to Head Coach DeMeco Ryans. The odds of him playing in this game are extremely low. As for Mixon, he has a real chance to play, but his status is still up in the air.
There are games that the Texans lose every year, that should not even be close, like the Panthers in 2023 and this can not be a repeat of that.
The Patriots hope to come out firing with their potential franchise quarterback in Drake Maye, but I predict that this will not be very close, even with the potential to be without several starters.
This will likely not be a major high scoring game, which means that I would slam the under 38.5 total points for this game.
