Opening odds and predictions for Texans vs. Packers.
Week 7 brings the 5-1 Houston Texans into Lambeau Field, home of the 4-2 Green Bay Packers. Unlike the toasty NRG field, Lambeau is renown for frozen temperatures and legendary tundra. Thankfully for the Texans, this weekend is currently forecast to fall in the mid-to-high 60s.
Perfect football weather.
The Texans are hot off their historic destruction of the 1-5 New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium last Sunday, while the Packers are looking for their second home win in a row after freezing out the 2-4 Arizona Cardinals last weekend.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love smoked the Cardinals defense for four touchdowns while their defense held Arizona’s Kyler Murray to one passing score.
Houston’s C.J. Stroud tossed three touchdowns against the Pats, while the H-Town D allowed rookie QB Drake Maye to do the same.
Love is far more formidable than Maye, so the Texans passing D will either need to step up their game or Stroud and the rushing attack will have to put the ball in the end zone every chance they get.
FANDUEL SPORTSBOOK OPENING ODDS:
- Spread: Texans +2.5
- Moneyline: Texans +130
- Over/Under: 47.5
What does that mean?
It’s anyone’s ball game. Giving the Pack 2.5 is what any team gets for home field advantage. Play this game at a neutral site and the spread is zip.
But, we know better.
The Packers currently have the 21st ranked rush defense.
Houston has Joe Mixon.
Joe Mixon has a chip on his shoulder and flourishes in the north.
The Packers have the 26th ranked passing defense.
See: (J) Stroud
While Houston’s run defense is ranked near the bottom of the league, their passing defense is top five. Now, those rankings are symbiotic, meaning if a team can run on you they don’t pass as much and vice versa. So, let’s look at the overall rankings:
Green Bay’s offense is fourth
Houston’s is sixth
The Packers D is 18th
The Texans are third
Verdict: If C.J. Stroud and his receivers can make up for the loss of Nico Collins and Joe Mixon can run angry early and often, the Texans should win this one.
With Collins in the line up, this is a Texans win all day.
Without him, it’s a true test of just what this team is made of in 2024.
HOUSTON TEXANS vs GREEN BAY PACKERS PREDICTION:
Houston Texans 37
Green Bay Packers 30
A generous mix of touchdowns and field goals with the edge going to Ka’imi Fairbairn who has only missed two this season, while the Packers’ Brayden Narveson has failed to connect on five so far.
Either way, this should be a good game of two of the NFL’s best teams in the first half of 2024.
#InDeMecoWeTrust
The Houston Texans had never beaten the New England Patriots on the road, until Sunday..
By the time they left Gillette Stadium, the Texans had danced and posed on just about every blade of grass in that building
