Every summer, key players being lost to season-ending injury is an unfortunate reality of NFL training camps.
The Houston Texans were hit with this harsh reality on Thursday after center Scott Quessenberry went down with a knee injury during practice.
According to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson, Quessenberry suffered a torn ACL and MCL, ending his 2023 season before it even began.

Quessenberry, a former fifth round pick of the Chargers, appeared in 63 games for Los Angeles from 2018-21, but made only 10 starts.
In his first season with the Texans last year, Quessenberry was named the team’s starting center in Week 2 and did not relinquish the post, starting the remaining 16 games.
The Texans did draft Penn State center Juice Scruggs in the second round back in April, and now they will likely have to throw him into the fire right away.
Jimmy Morrissey, who started four games at center as a rookie in 2021 and appeared in eight games as a reserve last fall, is the other pivot option currently on the Houston roster.
It remains to be seen if they will look to add a veteran free agent or wait until after cuts are made around the league.
