Andre Johnson is one step closer to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The seven-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro wide receiver was one of 25 modern-era players to be named a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame class of 2024. Johnson, 42, was also a semifinalist in each of the past two years but didn’t make the final cut in either year.

Not only is Johnson the franchise leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, he also ranks 11th, 11th and 17th in all three categories, respectively, in NFL history. All but four of the pass-catchers ahead of Johnson in the receptions and receiving yards record book are in the Hall of Fame.
Johnson, who was drafted No. 3 overall by the Texans in 2003, played 12 years in Houston. He had six 1,000-yard seasons and led the NFL in receiving yards twice, receptions twice and yards per game three times. Johnson retired in 2016 after one-year stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans following his tenure with the Texans.
The next phase of the Hall of Fame class selection process will take place before Super Bowl LVIII when a 50-person committee will reduce the 25 semifinalists down to 15. The final class will be announced next August.
