After a weekend of lopsided wild-card games, eight teams remain in the hunt for a Lombardi Trophy. The divisional round will feature four games to determine which AFC and NFC rosters are good enough to reach the conference championships.
For the Houston Texans, a date with the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs stands in their way of securing their first conference championship appearance. On Saturday afternoon, the Texans plan on making history in Arrowhead Stadium.
Each team only needs to win three more games to be crowned world champions, which is much easier said than done considering the talent left on the playoff field. The latest Super Bowl odds paint a picture of five clear favorites, with three other long shots.
After being among the bottom-dwellers in the first round of the postseason, it’s not hard to guess which category the Texans are in.
Here are updated odds for each team to win the Super Bowl, via BetMGM.
- Lions: +280
- Chiefs: +350
- Eagles: +400
- Ravens: +450
- Bills: +550
- Rams: +1800
- Commanders: +3000
- Texans: +5000
The Texans’ path to the Super Bowl won’t be an easy one, potentially requiring them to face two of the top five favorites left in the field right now. Regardless of the outcome, Houston will face off against a team with +550 or better on the road next weekend for a shot at a trip to New Orleans.
The next opponent will be a rematch for Houston during the regular season. In Week 5, the Texans bested Josh Allen short-handed at receiver after Nico Collins left with a hmastring injury. Behind a game-winning 59-yard field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn, Houston shored up a 23-20 victory.
On Christmas, Houston couldn’t get anything going against the Baltimore Ravens. Lamar Jackson finished with four TDs to cement his MVP case while Derrick Henry returned to his Tennessee Titans vs. Houston form after rushing for over 160 yards en route to a 31-2 victory.
The Texans are nowhere close to being the favorites, but the defense makes them a dangerous team in the AFC. Two wins stand between Houston and a first-time trip to the Super Bowl in franchise history.
