Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud had a rookie season to remember in 2023.
He finished with 4,108 yards through the air and 23 touchdowns as he helped the Texans win the AFC South and make the divisional round of the playoffs. He also won AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and is looking for more heading into year two.
Dan Orlovsky is a big fan of Stroud and recently credited Ohio State head coach Ryan Day for Stroud’s success right away.
“That’s why I think you walk away and be like, ‘Oh, we can give them more,’ like I was thinking about it this morning, CJ Stroud in part had that year last year, at least in my beliefs because of the way that Ryan Day coaches those quarterbacks at Ohio State,” Orlovsky said, (first transcribed by On3). “Like they, they have long play calls. You just gotta make sure that there’s different levels based communication within the huddle. I think that really was like a huge foundation for him and his success.”
Stroud’s ability to see the field from the pocket as a rookie was beautiful. He was also able to buy a lot more time since he’s extremely mobile and it opened up more avenues for success.
He’ll be trying to lead the Texans on a deeper playoff run in 2024 once the season starts in September.
