After not being able to score a touchdown in their first preseason game, the Miami Dolphins offensive reserves are looking to prove their worth against the Houston Texans.
Dolphins Players on Offense Look to Prove Their Worth in Game Against Texans
While it is likely that the Miami Dolphins Starters will see at least a series or two, the focus will be on players who are trying to make the roster. That includes those players on offense who did not look so great against the Falcons.
The Backup Quarterbacks
Skylar Thompson and Mike White combined 4 3 interceptions and zero touchdowns against the Falcons. Both quarterbacks likely make the Dolphins roster, especially, considering Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion history. That said, there is not a clear backup to Tagovailoa at this point. It will be interesting to see who of the two does become the second-string quarterback and if either can improve upon their dismal performance against the Falcons.
The Offensive Line
While it may appear Thompson and White played awful against the Falcons, it could be that the offensive line did not play well enough. Miami has had issues with finding a formidable starting offensive line that has allowed their quarterbacks to have consistent success, in recent years. Last week’s loss to the Falcons only made that issue more prevalent. Hopefully, the Dolphins can find a combination of linemen that allows the quarterbacks enough time to get rid of the ball and to throw while not under pressure.
Running Backs
Now that the Dalvin Cook circus is over and he is a New York jet, the competition in the Dolphins running back department may have just gotten a bit more fierce. Additionally, Miami has not had an issue with keeping only two quarterbacks on the roster. Myles Gaskin looked great against the Falcons. He likely will be the third back on the roster. After that, there are not any guarantees. Rookie De’Von Achane did not look good in the ground game. He did however look good catching the ball. Recent Dolphins stalwart, Salvon Ahmed had only a single catch for six yards and no carries.
The Texans
After beating the Patriots last week (I know it’s only preseason), the Houston Texans are looking to go 2-0. After a 3-13, 2022 Season, anything positive is good for the morale of this Texans team.
Takeaway
The Miami Dolphins roster is far from complete. There are players still vying for positions on the depth chart and those just trying to make the roster. After an extremely poor performance against the Falcons, especially On offense, some of those players are looking to prove their worth. Dolfans will likely see Starters for the first time this season. What they will be watching even more closely, are the performances of those players that laid an egg last week and are trying to show why they should make this roster. Dolphins fans are crossing their fingers that things go a lot better this week against the Texans for all those who are trying their hardest to claim the top spots on the depth charts as well as to make the roster.
