Cam Akers’ time as a member of the Houston Texans has come to an abrupt end. On a busier than usual day of trades that saw Davante Adams go to the New York Jets and Amari Cooper go to the Buffalo Bills, the Houston Texans are getting in on the trade action by sending third string running back Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Trade! The #Texans are sending RB Cam Akers to the #Vikings, sources say.
Houston gets a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick in exchange for Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick.

The Texans will receive a conditional sixth and seventh round pick for Akers, who is expected to back up Aaron Jones and, per Pelissero, this is not an indication of any long term concerns for Jones, who was injured during the Vikings’ game against the New York Jets in London on October 6.
It’s expected that he will bring added depth to the Vikings RB room with his knowledge of Kevin O’Connell’s system going back to their days with the Los Angeles Rams.
As for the Texans, it would appear that the team is feeling bullish (Get it? Bullish? Never mind.) about Dameon Pierce backing up Joe Mixon after his impressive performance last week against the New England Patriots.
Akers’ departure opens up the RB3 slot on the roster to remaining backs Dare Ogunbowale, J.J. Taylor, and British Brooks with Ogunbowale holding the advantage.
How are y’all feeling about the trade? Happy, disappointed? Indifferent?
