Every win counts for the Houston Texans, but this would be perhaps the biggest in franchise history.
The Texans hit the road to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in a clash of opponents destined to change history. The last time Houston took on Patrick Mahomes, they were the first victim en route to the start of a five-year dynasty.
Houston (11-7) looks to punch its ticket to the conference championship round for the first time in franchise history. Even with doubters looking from beyond, it’s nothing new. Houston was a 3.5-point underdog last week against the Los Angeles Chargers and still managed to double Justin Hebert’s turnover total while doubling the score.
“It’s a new game for me, fresh start, new game. We will attack it just like it’s our first time playing these guys again,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “So we’ll go in with a fresh set of eyes and see the things we need to do to be better, the things we need to do that close out the game.”
Kansas City hasn’t played starters since the third quarter of Week 17. Even with two weeks of rest, there’s belief that the football gods might have used up all the luck in the regular season to ensure a 15-2 finish. And while Andy Reid might be best known for his game-planning, having reps could give Houston the inside track.
To get an inside look at Kansas City’s path back to the Super Bowl, the overall expectations for the matchup, and what to expect from Mahomes and Co., Texans Wire reached out to John Dillon, managing editor of Chiefs Wire to break down everything Texans fans should expect when the AFC contenders take the field at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
