John Lynch and the San Francisco 49ers got busy this Thursday, officially agreeing to a trade with the Houston Texans.
The 49ers have acquired defensive tackle Maliek Collins from the Texans. In order to make this deal happen, they gave up a seventh-round pick.
“49ers officially acquired DL Maliek Collins from the Houston Texans in exchange for the first of the team’s two 2024 seventh-round draft picks,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said.
That means the Texans now own pick No. 232 in this year’s draft.
Collins had a really productive 2023 season, racking up 41 tackles, 18 quarterback hits and five sacks. In three seasons with the Texans, he compiled 107 tackles, 35 quarterback hits, 11 sacks and one fumble recovery.
The 49ers wasted no time trading for Collins, who’ll replace longtime defensive lineman Arik Armstead. They parted ways with the Oregon produce earlier this week.
Upgrading the defensive line has been a major priority for the 49ers this offseason. In addition to trading for Collins, they signed Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos to deals once the legal tampering window opened.
