The Houston Texans don’t need to add another player to an already stacked roster.
Want and need two drastically different ways to view scenarios for contending teams. In fact, everyone wants to add in a can’t-miss player looking for a new home on the open market entering July, but some teams don’t need to pay what the going rate is for veterans.
Houston added promising players this offseason in Danielle Hunter, Azeez Al-Shaair, Joe Mixon, Stefon Diggs and Jeff Okudah. Hunter, Diggs and Mixon are all Pro Bowl-level talents, while Al-Shaair is a consistent tackler who rarely makes mistakes.
If the Texans were to add another name into the mix, it likely would come at a team-friendly rate. That doesn’t take them out of the conversation, but some of the more high-profile options left on the market might pivot elsewhere when discussing contracts.
What positions need an upgrade in Houston? Outside cornerback still could benefit from a voice opposite Derek Stingley Jr. Defensive tackle remains a question mark even after the signing of Denico Autry. And one can never have too much offensive line help, right?
With that in mind, it’s best to keep the list short with a focus on those positions. Here are 11 free agents who the Texans might be monitoring leading up to training camp.
