Three of the four 1-seeds in the NCAA Tournament made it to the Second Round yesterday and the fourth hopes to join them this afternoon. But ESPN’s Dick Vitale has a word of warning for one of them.
Appearing on Get Up and later taking to Twitter, Dickie V expressed concern for the Houston Cougars after their win over Northern Kentucky yesterday. He said that the groin injury suffered by All-American guard Marcus Sasser could loom large moving forward and could potentially hinder their national title hopes.
“Just was on @GetUpESPN with @Espngreeny & we talked about what the possible groin injury to MARCUS SASSER could mean . @CoachSampsonUH a winner will never ever make excuses .. Let’s be real his absence would be a major blow to the @UHCougarMB chances to win it all,” Vitale wrote.
Without Sasser, Houston were in a dogfight against Northern Kentucky for most of their game yesterday. The Cougars won by 11 after pulling away in the final minutes of the game.
In their last three trips to the NCAA Tournament, the Houston Cougars have made it to the Sweet 16 each time. Just last year they made it to the Elite Eight with one of their biggest stars missing too.
But the goal this year is to win it all, and that becomes far more difficult if Houston’s best player is going to miss potentially significant time in the NCAA Tournament.
Will Marcus Sasser be back in time to help the Cougars on their run?
