The final stretch of the regular season kicks off with NMSU
Last time out, Texas A&M was shocked on the road as they lost to South Carolina 44-20.
That was followed up by the idle week last week.
Now Texas A&M faces New Mexico State with a chance to get right ahead of the final two SEC games of the year.
Frankly, we know how Saturday’s game should go so this preview is going to be short and sweet.
Let’s talk about what we need to see from the offensive and defensive lines.
Offensive Line
For the offensive line, make this game what’s expected.
Absolutely dominate up front and help establish the run early on.
Texas A&M should be able to generate plenty of push. I want to see long, sustained drives down the field with touchdowns to punctuate the end.
In the passing game, New Mexico State shouldn’t be able to generate pressure against this offensive line. Texas A&M should be able to keep Marcel Reed upright all game and anything less is a disappointment.
Defensive Line
Texas A&M’s defense turned in one of the worst performances of the Mike Elko era against South Carolina.
However, it really all boiled down to two issues.
Penalties and missed tackles.
It starts with the Texas A&M defensive line.
From this unit, I need to see disciplined, fundamental football.
No unnecessary penalties.
Lower the pad level, bring the arms, and wrap up on every single tackle.
Texas A&M’s front should be living in the New Mexico State backfield. Discipline first, then the TFLs, sacks, and turnovers. Suffocate the opponent with pressure and force them to mistakes.
Simple as.
