Aggies out of the Playoff, but still in prime position
To nobody’s surprise, a win over New Mexico State didn’t do much to impress the College Football Playoff committee, as Texas A&M remains at No. 15 in the latest Playoff rankings.

While A&M is currently on the outside looking in of the field of 12 playoff teams, they’re in perhaps the most enviable spot of any team not already in the field. The Aggies have two big tests with a road game at Auburn and at home at Texas to finish the season, one of the most challenging closing stretches in the country, and as such, they have a massive opportunity to make a statement to the selection committee. If A&M wins both of those games, they finish the regular season in sole possession of first place in the SEC, head to Atlanta for the conference championship game, and are a virtual lock to make their first College Football Playoff.
If the Aggies lose one of the next two games, their chances of an at-large Playoff spot disappear, and their chances of going to the SEC Championship Game get put on life support (but wouldn’t be completely dead).
Bottom line: Win and great things will happen.
