
No. 7 Aggies start things off with a double-header
Spring sports are getting into full swing in Aggieland, and that goes up even a notch further on Thursday as the No. 7 Texas A&M softball team begins their 2025 season as they host the Aggie Classic at David Diamond. They’ll play a double-header on Thursday against Utah State at 4:30 p.m. followed by Purdue at 7 p.m. They’ll then play three more games this weekend, playing No. 19 Baylor at 7 p.m. on Friday, ACU and Villanova at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, respectively, and wrapping up with two more games at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday with a rematch against Purdue.

The Aggies come into this season with high expectations in their third year under Head Coach Trisha Ford, a year after going 44-15, advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since 2018 and coming agonizingly close to beating rival Texas and advancing to the Women’s College World Series.
Texas A&M returns 13 letterwinners and weclomes 14 newcomers, including nine true freshmen and five transfers. Aggies Mac Barbara, Emiley Kennedy and Koko Wooley were named to the USA Softball Top 53 Player of the Year Watch List. The trio also garnered top 100 player rankings given out by D1 Softball and Softball America, while each were named to the Preseason All-SEC Team. After finishing 2024 as a second team All-American, Kennedy highlights the preseason recognitions after being named to the D1 Softball and Softball America Preseason First Team All-America lists. The left-handed pitcher was also ranked the No. 6 overall player by Softball America and No. 7 overall by D1 Softball.
The Ags also boast the nation’s most experienced pitching staff with a combined 983.2 innings pitched as a group. The senior duo of Kennedy (462.1 IP) and Emily Leavitt (332.0 IP) combined have tossed nearly 800 innings, while junior transfer Grace Sparks has thrown 126.2 innings and sophomore transfer Sidne Peters has registered 62.2 innings pitched.
A&M will play a total of 22 non-conference games over the next four weekends before beginning SEC play on Friday, March 7, against the Florida Gators.
