Gotta start somewhere
We’ve talked about rankings all season, but all along, we knew there was only one ranking that really mattered, and they wouldn’t be released until tonight. The College Football Playoff committee released their first batch of rankings for the 2024 season on Tuesday night, and Texas A&M (7-2, 5-1) came in at No. 14.

It’s worth noting that this is higher than the Aggies are in either the Coaches Poll (No. 16) or the AP Top 25 (No. 15). This has the Aggies as the “second team out,” according to the committee.
Now obviously there’s still a lot of football to play, both for the Ags and across the nation, but A&M is in a good spot to control their own destiny. Despite losing to South Carolina on Saturday, if they can win their next three games against New Mexico State, Auburn and Texas, they’re likely in the Playoff as well as the SEC Championship Game. Win and you’re in, it’s as simple as that. With A&M on a bye this week and playing a cupcake the week after, they’ll also be hoping for a bit of chaos around them to make that path even clearer.
