You’re allowed to have a special teams coach?!?!
It was already widely assumed, but it appears official that Duke Tight Ends/Special Teams coach Patrick Dougherty will be following head coach Mike Elko to fill the same role at Texas A&M.
Texas A&M is expected to hire Duke’s Patrick Dougherty as special teams coordinator, sources tell @247sports.
Under Dougherty, Duke has ranked in the top-25 nationally in stats like punt and kick return defense, punt return average and blocked kicks.https://t.co/dJORJ81sdD pic.twitter.com/HmShYAre7w

The Aggies notoriously did not have a special teams coach under Jimbo Fisher, much to the chagrin of many fans. Dougherty brings a decade of experience in the role, doing so for eight seasons at Ball State and two years under Elko at Duke.
It appears the only position coach roles left unfilled for the Aggies are RB Coach and WR Coach. Duke’s Trooper Taylor is expected to take the RB Coach role, but who will be WR Coach is still very much unknown.
