Mark your calendars
This is Texas’ first year in the SEC, and in football, we have to wait until the very last regular season game to renew that rivalry (as it should be). But for basketball, no such wait will be necessary. On Tuesday, CBS’ Jon Rothstein reported that the Texas A&M Aggies will host the Texas Longhorns to open SEC on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Reed Arena.
Sources: Texas A&M will host Texas on Saturday, January 4th, which will be the first day of SEC league play during the 2024-25 season.

The only downside to this is that the game is played nine days before the first day of the spring semester, so many A&M students likely wouldn’t have been back in town yet. But it’s hard to imagine there being any shortage of interest in this game, no matter when it was played.
This game will mark the first time in 12 years that the Aggies and Longhorns have faced one another as conference foes, as well as the first time one has traveled to the other’s home court in that span. They have played two non-conference games against one another (both at neutral courts) going 1-1 in those games.
Both teams are ranked in the preseason top 25, but no matter what the rankings are when the game arrives, this first matchup with the Horns, in every sport, will be a fun one.
