Looks like it’s Max Johnson time
Conner Weigman exited Texas A&M’s game against Auburn in the second quarter with what looked like an ankle injury and did not return, and while Jimbo Fisher said in his postgame comments that X-rays were negative, we did not get a firm report of the injury or a timetable for his return. But according to Aggies Today, Weigman suffered a high ankle sprain and will likely be out two to four weeks.
BREAKING: Texas A&M starting quarterback Conner Weigman will “likely miss around 2-4 weeks” with a high-ankle sprain, source says.
Until then though, Max Johnson will be the starting quarterback in his absence. pic.twitter.com/dT81AJ6gR0

Looking at the Aggies’ schedule, that puts Weigman’s most likely return to come after A&M’s bye week for the game against South Carolina on Oct. 28. High ankle sprains are notorious for lingering longer than you’d expect, so Weigman coming back for the game at Tennessee in 19 days or the Alabama game in 12 days seem a bit ambitious. But regardless, the fact that this isn’t a season-ending injury has to be considered good news, especially since A&M saw injury end our starter’s season in each of the past two seasons with Haynes King in 2021 and Max Johnson in 2022.
Speaking of Johnson, he filled in more than admirably for Weigman this past weekend, completing 7 of 11 passes for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns, putting away a game that was very much in doubt at the half. He was acknowledged as one of the better (if not the best) backup QB in the SEC, and the Aggies look to benefit from that depth as they turn to Johnson to helm the Aggie offense this Saturday against Arkansas. That game begins at 11 a.m. and will air on SEC Network.
