Season off to a solid start
At long last, Texas A&M baseball began their most anticipated season in program history this weekend with a three-game series against Elon. The Aggies took care of business against an out-manned opponent, sweeping the series three games to none.
Game 1: Texas A&M 4, Elon 2
The Aggies stranded a lot of runners, but did just enough to secure the win, thanks in large part to a three-run 6th inning fueled by three walks and a wild pitch by Elon pitchers. 1B Blake Binderup paces the Aggies with two hits, an RBI, a run scored and a walk, and Aggie ace Ryan Prager threw five scoreless innings while striking out eight batters.
Game 2: Texas A&M 16, Elon 6
Safe to say the bats woke up for this one, as Jace Laviolette homered twice with 5 RBI, and six Aggies had a multi-hit game. Starter Justin Lamkin had some trouble early, giving up three runs in the first two innings, but settled into post shutdown innings in the 3rd, 4th and 5th. This one ended early with the Ags up 10 after six innings.
Game 3: Texas A&M 12, Elon 6
A game that was already firmly in A&M’s grasp got an exclamation point with Kaeden Kent’s 5th inning grand slam. Catcher Jacob Galloway also had a banner day, notching three hits and four RBIs. Starter Myles Patton allowed just one run in five innings, and despite some runs given up by the A&M bullpen, this one also ended early (due to Sunday travel restrictions).
The Ags host McNeese for a midweek matchup on Tuesday before a weekend series with Cal Poly Feb. 21-23 at Olsen Field at Blue Bell park.
