A fresh look for a new regime.
We’re just days away from the first Texas A&M game of the Mike Elko era, and as had been rumored in recent days, the grass at Kyle Field got a fresh upgrade. The new look includes the lone star logo at midfield, maroon endzones, maroon trim around each endzone and “HOME OF THE 12TH MAN” and “G.R.I.N.D.” along the sidelines.

Texas A&M’s previous field design was much more simple, and as was noted by Doug Keegan on X, this layout is virtually identical to the one used at Duke during Mike Elko’s tenure there, so it’s safe to assume he had a hand in this change.
I have been advocating for the lone star logo at midfield for years. It imply looks better to have a self-contained logo with no grass between the elements. Regarding the maroon end zones, it’s something A&M has done as a one-game event a handful of times in recent seasons, but we’ve been told for years that the paint negatively affects the grass over the course of the season (and this has been confirmed to me by turf managers at multiple schools). Despite this, I suppose A&M leadership decided the juice was worth the squeeze to add more color to Kyle Field.
One thing I’m somewhat sad to see go is the yellow goal line. Was it a bit pointless? Yes. But A&M had done it for decades, so it’s a unique quirk I kind of with they had maintained. But overall, I LOOOOOVE the look of this new field, and can’t wayt to see it on Saturday.
