This season hasn’t gone to plan for Texas A&M but a lot of baseball remains
As Texas A&M Baseball approaches the fourth weekend of the young season, the Aggies hold a 7-5 record.
For a squad that finished second in Omaha last season and kicked off the season ranked #1, this has been a disappointing start. There is no spinning that.
The bats haven’t been as good as we all expected considering the returning talent in the lineup, the defensive play hasn’t been flawless, pitching needs to be improved, and the injury bug has claimed Gavin Grahovac for the season.
Texas A&M needs to find itself.
The good news for Michael Earley’s squad is there is still a ton of baseball left to play. Texas A&M returns home this weekend to welcome New Mexico State to College Station.
The series marks the last weekend before SEC play begins. A perfect spot to find some much-needed rhythm ahead of the conference gauntlet.
The Aggies of Las Cruces make the trek to College Station with a 7-5 record of their own.
New Mexico State will face the trio of left-handed pitchers that Texas A&M has started for each weekend thus far. Prager on Friday, Lamkin on Saturday, and Patton on Sunday. The starting pitching for Texas A&M, at least on the weekends, has been a plus. The trio has 59 strikeouts through almost 45 innings pitched. The relief pitching has struggled, however.
That’s the piece of the Texas A&M pitching staff where the Aggies need to find the most improvement and where Texas A&M fans may face some concern in this series against New Mexico State.

For the Texas A&M lineup, they’ll get a trio of right-handed pitchers when New Mexico State comes to town. Friday’s projected starter for NMSU, Jack Turner, is 2-0 on the season so far. However, Turner has just 5 strikeouts on the year.
Saturday’s projected starter for NMSU is Hayden Lewis. Lewis has yet to go more than four innings in an appearance on the season – the hope is that Texas A&M can get to the NMSU bullpen quickly on Saturday.
Finally, Sunday’s projected starter is freshman Matthew Yarc. Yarc’s 11 strikeouts make him the leader in the category for NMSU. However, Yarc has also struggled in his last two starts being pulled after three innings in each and allowing six earned runs in both appearances.
For Texas A&M – this series is the last weekend to get right ahead of SEC play. Anything short of a sweep will surely add to the pressure to perform heading into the meat of the season.
Can the Aggies find themselves against NMSU?
