Get to know McNeese:
- Location: Lake Charles, LA
- Established: 1939
- Enrollment: 7,626
- Mascot: Cowboys
- Colors: Royal blue and gold
- Conference: Southland (FCS)
Setting the stage:
- Texas A&M is 0-1 after a 23-13 loss to Notre Dame to begin the season.
- McNeese is 1-1 after a 26-23 loss to Tarleton State in Week 0 and a 21-7 win over Southern in Week 1.
Historical notes:
- Despite their proximity, Texas A&M and McNeese have only met one time, with the Aggies winning 38-24 in 2001.
- McNeese has not had a winning season since 2019 and has never beaten a team from a power conference.
- Texas A&M has never lost to an FCS team
What to watch for:
- Weigman watch: After entering the season with a lot of praise, Conner struggled mightily to find a rhythm against Notre Dame, completing only 40% of his passes and throwing two interceptions. Obviously McNeese is nowhere close to the same level of competition that A&M saw last week and will see later this season, but it’s an opportunity for Weigman to re-establish himself and gain some confidence for the games to come.
- Coach Klein: Obviously McNeese is not a team where you reveal the full breadth of the playbook, but much like Weigman, this is an opportunity for Offensive Coordinator Collin Klein to find things the offense is doing well and build on that as the season wears on.
- Born to run: McNeese has been run-heavy in their first two games, and with the Aggie pass rush/secondary putting forth a strong effort this past weekend, there’s a good chance they try to establish themselves on the ground again.
- Sunscreen: With an 11:45 a.m. kickoff, there will be little shade to be found for fans at Kyle Field. Hydrate, apply sunscreen liberally and pray for a strategically located cloud or two.
