Aggies look to keep control of their SEC destiny
Get to Know Auburn:
- Location: Auburn, AL
- Established: 1856
- Enrollment: 34,195
- Mascot: Tigers
- Colors: Burnt orange and navy blue
- Conference: SEC
What You Need to Know:
- Texas A&M is 8-2 (5-1) and ranked No. 15 in the country. The Aggies are tied for first place in the SEC with another team I can’t quite recall at the moment.
- Auburn is 4-6 (1-5), with their only Power 4 win coming against Kentucky.
- Statistically, A&M and Auburn are actually quite similar, save for one glaring category: turnover margin. The Tigers are 127th in the country with a turnover margin of -1.1 per game. That’s the worst in the SEC and second to only FSU to be the worst among Power Conference teams. And it has cost them several games this season.
Betting Lines:
- The Aggies opened as a 2.5-point favorite
- The over/under is 47.5.
Historical Notes:
- Texas A&M leads the all time series 8-6, but it is tied 6-6 since the Ags joined the SEC in 2012. A&M is 4-2 at Jordan Hare Stadium
- Famous Auburn alumni include athletes Bo Jackson, Charles Barkley, Cam Newton and Frank Thomas, actor Octavia Spencer, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, singer Lionel Richie, US Senator Tommy Tuberville, world class yeller Will Muschamp and the greatest player in NFL history, Al Del Greco.
What To Watch For:
- Look-ahead spot: This is Auburn’s final home game of the season, and the Tigers need to beat both A&M and Alabama in order to reach bowl eligibility. Safe to say, this may be a hungry team. The Aggies, meanwhile, will still control their destiny in the SEC with a win. But will A&M get caught looking ahead to a renewed rivalry 13 years in the making?
- Bisontis back? G Chase Bisontis went down against Mississippi State and has since missed the past three games. Will he return and give the Maroon Goons a boost?
- 9th win? Texas A&M hasn’t won nine regular season games since 2012 (when they went 10-2), so getting back to that threshold in year one of the Mike Elko era would be a major accomplishment.
